Hybrid Cloud Storage is an important & key need for an enterprise. Generally companies store their data on the local storage so that it is easily and quickly accessible. But companies also want the data redundancy in case the local data is unavailable or lost. This is where the remote storage or Cloud Storage comes into picture. Companies simply cannot rely on a single source of data storage, therefore they need to replicate or store more than one copy of the data on the different locations. This will prevent the data loss and provide data redundancy. In this article we are exploring the model through which this can be achieved i.e Hybrid Cloud Storage.
So what’s actually is Hybrid Cloud Storage
It defines as a cloud storage model in which both Private and Public clouds are used for the data storage. It the nutshell it uses the external and internal cloud applications and storage systems to create a robust storage infrastructure. Hybrid cloud storage provides the redundancy of the data in case if organizations used it as a backup and recovery solutions.
How can organizations achieve Hybrid Cloud Storage models
Organisation can achieve Hybrid Cloud Storage models in two ways:
- Organization can combine on premise storage infrastructure and cloud providers infrastructures ( Alibaba, AWS ) etc. for storing the data. With this solution organizations have both data security and data redundancy. If the data is lost from the on-premise infra storage, then it can be recovered from the cloud storage and vice-versa. One biggest advantages of this model is that organizations gets the better performance of the applications which uses this data since data is accessed from the local disks. Also the data is continuously synchronized to the cloud providers.
- Another approach through which this model can be achieved is using multiple cloud providers in combination of public cloud storage solutions like Dropbox. In this model the security gap is big since data is stored on the public cloud solutions. While using this model, biggest advantage is that your data is replicated to multiple cloud providers i.e. even if any cloud solution is down and results in data loss, organizations can recover their data from the other cloud providers. Since the data is accessed from the cloud there is always a high latency than the first model.
Why companies need to go with Hybrid Cloud Storage model
- Provides low latency with high redundancy: with Hybrid Cloud Storage model organizations achieve low latency and data redundancy at the same time. Data is read by the applications from directly disk and data is sync on remote locations which helps in improving performance of the applications.
- Enhance Data recovery model: By syncing data on the remote servers, organizations takes a step ahead in creating an extra layer of backup already. Hybrid Cloud Storage model gives organizations a way to recover their data when they lost the data from the on-premises storage.
