Components of mission and vision are often combined to provide an explanation of the purposes, goals and values of the company. Although, the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably.
Building mission and vision is executed through the following hierarchy:
Senior executives typically will write the general mission and vision statements of the company. Other executives may write statements for their specific divisions or company units at distinct rates. The approach to development demands that executives:
- Clearly recognize the corporate culture, values, approach and vision of the future through interviews with staff, vendors and clients
- Address the company’s dedication to its main stakeholders, including clients, staff, shareholders and communities.

Crafting a Vision Statement
- Guidance and inspiration is provided to outline the company’s aims for the next five to ten years.
- The focus is to be on the outcome when the work is completed rather than the description of what one does.
- It acts a guiding channel so that the employees everyday work is seen as a contribution to accomplishing something in the long term and it essentially acts as the North star.
- Is written briefly in an inspiring way that makes it easy for all staff to recite at any specified moment
- Above all, vision statements should be simple, brief and jargon-free.
- The crafted vision statement should be revisited in the sense that it should be revisited to after a night’s sleep and the same enthusiasm should exist.
Crafting a Mission Statement
The mission statement of a company is seen as one’s opportunity to outline the company’s goals, ethics, culture and norms for decision-making:
Three dimensions are utilized to define a company’s goals through the best mission statement.
The three dimensions are:
- The company’s responsibilities towards the customers
- It’s responsibilities towards its employees
- It’s responsibilities towards its owners.
There is a fourth and fifth dimension that is extended to outline some of the best mission statements:
- The responsibilities of the company towards the community and the world
However, the best mission statement is found to be a culmination of physical, emotional, and logical element onto one excellent customer and employee experience. Mission statement is similar to a vision statement in terms of its constructs, such as it should be short, simple and inspirational. It must define the current state or purpose of a company or organization.
